Home Builder Supplies Checklist

It is an exciting project to finalize the floor plans and move forward with the construction of a new home! The more you prepare in advance, the smoother this construction process will be. Not only do you need to line up the subcontractors and labor services, but it’s just as important to ensure that you have the right materials available. This checklist will help to ensure efficiency so that you can reduce delays during the construction process:

Foundation Materials

The first step for any construction project is to build a strong foundation. There are critical supplies that will be needed for this foundation, including concrete, steel reinforcements, and forms or molds so that the foundation can be shaped while the concrete is being poured. Additionally, it’s common to use crushed stone or gravel to allow for proper drainage.

Framing Supplies

Once the foundation is in place, then it’s time to start framing the house. Building the structure requires a lot of lumber, including 2x4s, OSB, and plywood. These materials will be used to create the skeleton of the house. Also, make sure to have plenty of metal fasteners and connectors so that the joints can be secured. Other things that will be necessary include screws, nails, and framing tools.

Roofing Materials

The roof is a critical feature that provides a layer of protection for the completed home. Once the roof is framed, additional materials will be necessary to make it strong and weatherproof. For example, roofing underlayment can be used for weatherproofing, with tiles, shingles, or metal sheets on top to create the outer covering. Supplemental roofing supplies include things such as nails, adhesives, and sealants to hold all of the other materials in place. Also, consider the materials that will be necessary for gutter and downspout installation once the new roof is in place.

Exterior Finishes

Various types of materials can be used to protect the exterior of the home. Some of the most popular materials include siding made out of wood, vinyl, or fiber cement. Usually, insulation wraps are put in place before the siding is installed to boost the energy efficiency of the home. Other materials that will be needed include doors and windows, weatherstripping, and exterior caulking.

Interior Finishes

The most common interior finishes that are necessary include plasterboard, drywall, flooring materials, insulation, plumbing, electrical, and more. These materials not only support the function of the home, but also help with beautifying the living space. Often, it’s helpful to consult with an interior designer to ensure that all of the colors and finishes look good together.
